Dishwasher_, formed in Ghent, blends genres from electronic to jazz, inspired by artists like Aphex Twin and Frank Zappa. The pandemic gave them time to experiment and write, which helped shape their unique sound.

The three Dishwashers hail from Ghent (Belgium), but bassist Louise and drummer Arno met during their bachelor studies at the Conservatorium Maastricht, regarded as Europe’s most international conservatory. After connecting with saxophonist/synthesist Werend, they began jamming and performing free improvisation concerts, which eventually led to the formation of Dishwasher_.

“We started just before the pandemic, like a month earlier,” says Louise. “At first, we couldn’t meet as often as we wanted, so we had a lot of time to write music and experiment on our own. These experiments were brought to rehearsal, which was great.”

“Dishwasher is a blend of many things. We admire computer-produced music like Aphex Twin and Squarepusher, but we’re also influenced by jazz giants. We love musicians and bands who merge different genres into one coherent sound: STUFF., Niels Broos x Jamie Peet, Frank Zappa, Smandem – just to name a few.”
