kotokid brings a unique blend of 80’s jazz fusion and modern alternative R&B, showcasing Freek Mulder’s passion for analog synths and experimental sounds. The pandemic gave the band more time to experiment, resulting in the creation of new textures, a live EP, and a fresh approach to their energetic sound.

Are you ready for a powerful mix of 80's jazz fusion and modern alternative R&B and soul? With kotokid, bassist and producer Freek Mulder showcases his passion for analog synthesizers, sequencers, and drum machines. "They inspire me to find new sounds and textures," he says, comparing his trio's output to "a wall of sound, with the dynamics and energy of a live fusion band."

Freek and his bandmates all studied jazz at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. The pandemic accelerated things for kotokid. “Because of the pandemic, I couldn’t play live as much anymore. Since this was the bulk of my work, I had more time to focus on producing music. By spending more time on it, I discovered the potential of the music I was working on. It also freed up space in my bandmates’ schedules to experiment. We had the time to come together, record a live EP and videos, and develop our sound.”
