Suzan Veneman Sextet

  • InJazz session

Suzan Veneman leads her sextet with a captivating blend of expressive melodies and powerful harmonies. Her debut album, Migrations of the Mind, reflects the emotional depth and urgency that came from navigating the challenges of the pandemic. Through her compositions, she brings her band closer, transforming hardship into music that speaks to the heart.

Trumpeter and flugelhorn player Suzan Veneman has been performing with various bands and orchestras at clubs and festivals across the Netherlands over the past decade. She is a composer and arranger with notable achievements in both the US (where she studied) and Europe. Now, she is making waves as a bandleader, with her sextet being her primary focus since 2019.

Migrations of the Mind, the debut album of the Suzan Veneman Sextet, was released in March 2022. Suzan describes her compositions as "narrative music, expressive and filled with poignant melodies and harmonies." The COVID years were difficult for Suzan, both personally and artistically. “Playing and writing music has become more important than ever, so that we can express how we feel and be heard. This has made us play with more urgency, love, and strength, and has brought us closer together as a band. We need each other to succeed and grow, to not take what we do for granted, and to evolve into better musicians.”
