Nefertiti Quartet

  • InJazz session

The Nefertiti Quartet explores the freedom of improvisation and original composition, drawing from European jazz and contemporary influences. Their approach gives each member the space to lead in improvisation, creating a dynamic and ever-evolving sound.

The Nefertiti Quartet has been improvising for nearly ten years. After meeting at the Conservatoire de Paris in 2012, the four members have played extensively while building a repertoire of original compositions. With traditional instruments (sax, piano, double bass, drums), the group strives to take their music to new places, with a palette that ranges from sweet, singable melodies to contemporary textures and completely free improvisation. “We believe that this way we never stagnate and take the listener along on that journey,” says Pedro Ivo Ferreira, the double bassist of the Nefertiti Quartet.

In 2014, Ferreira moved to Amsterdam, which gave the group the opportunity to work with a broader European scope. “Our main inspiration comes from European jazz and contemporary music. In Nefertiti, we all make the agreements together. We like to take our time to refine each piece and allow the freedom for every musical personality to shine. This way, the improvisation can be led by any member, with no predetermined agreements, allowing the music the freedom to go where it needs to in order to translate the moment.”
