Thomas van Dun

Componist | Visueel Kunstenaar

Thomas van Dun (The Netherlands, 1995) is a contemporary composer and songwriter. He has written for diverse ensembles including multiple symphony orchestras.

His work for classical ensembles is distinguished by rhythmical vividness, its ties to electronic dance music, colourful use of instrumentation, and grand spatial gestures. His pieces have been commissioned for orchestras and events such as the Nederlands Studenten Orkest, the Residentie Orkest, the inauguration for the Olympic Games of 2018. In August of 2021, his percussion concerto In Transit premiered during the 2021 edition of the Nederlands Studenten Orkest concert series, with Nederlandse Muziekprijs winner Dominique Vleeshouwers as the soloist. Earlier this year, he created a concert experience ‘Light Mass’ for festival Dag in de Branding, as artist-in-residence, which premiered on May 20th in The Hague.

Van Dun has studied with composers such as Martijn Padding, Yannis Kyriakides, Dai Fujikura, and Calliope Tsoupaki at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague and the Royal College of Music in London.
