A mix of modern jazz, rock, and classical influences defines Prashant Samlal Quartet, which won the Conservatorium Talent Award and released their debut album Here and Now in 2019.
Described by its leader as an avant-garde jazz quartet, Prashant Samlal Quartet reflects a mix of musical styles, drawing not only from modern jazz greats but also from rock and classical music. Prashant Samlal, inspired by people, relationships, nature, and various forms of art, formed his band in early 2018 as part of his graduation project at the HKU Conservatorium in Utrecht. That same year, the band won the Conservatorium Talent Award, and they began performing at concerts and festivals, even appearing on TV with VPRO Vrije Geluiden. In 2019, they released their debut album Here and Now. When applying for inJazz 2021, the quartet had a set of new music ready, with a second album in the works.
