Sjoerd van Eijck Quartet blends melodic richness with open, expansive spaces, creating intimate stories through minimalist piano and lyrical improvisation.

Melodic, rich music with expansive open spaces – this quartet is the perfect addition to this year’s inJazz lineup! Dutch jazz pianist and composer Sjoerd van Eijck (1992, Breda) has refined his lyrical style of improvisation over the years. Drawing on his experience with ensembles like Mudita (ft. Sanne Rambags, Koen Smits) and as a sideman in various projects of Eric Vloeimans, he has developed his own sound. Van Eijck plays with humility, always seeking the edges of silence and serenity. His touch on the piano is unmatched, reducing melodies and rhythms to their essence – the material with which he paints intimate stories. "I think very harmonically. Melodies emerge, sometimes I sing. The act of singing along with the piano chords always brings about new things. I prefer to play fewer notes than more. I live by the 'virtue of elimination'; every note must hit."
