In this video, Ensemble HAY! performs Alpha es et O, a composition by Dutch composer Piet-Jan van Rossum, at the FLuXus Verkadefabriek in Zaandam. Van Rossum, known for his storytelling approach to music, creates compositions that reflect his fascination with life’s imperfections and the beauty found in decay. His work, full of silences, waiting, and broken sounds, aims to evoke a new beauty in the erosion of the old sound world. The performance features Doriene Marselje (harp), Jennifer van der Hart (soprano), and Naomi Sato (sho). This video was recorded in 2021 for VPRO Vrije Geluiden, in co-production with New Music NOW.
