Sara Zamboni

Italian composer, pianist, and creative coach based in the Netherlands

Sara Zamboni (b. 1990) is an Italian composer, pianist, and creative coach based in the Netherlands.

With a dynamic and ever-curious musical spirit, Sara creates contemporary classical music spanning a wide range of genres: from instrumental compositions to electronic works, often blending disciplines such as movement, visuals, and literature. She is particularly drawn to composing for live performance, where the interplay between artists and audience brings her ideas to life. Collaborative projects are central to her practice, with a special focus on chamber music, contemporary music theatre, and compositions for dance and movement research.

She holds a Master’s degree in Classical Piano from the Conservatorio "Marenzio" in Brescia, Italy, and Bachelor's and Master’s degrees in Composition from the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, The Netherlands. While her formal education laid a strong foundation, she views learning as a lifelong journey, continuously evolving with new creative challenges and goals.

Over the years, her portfolio has encompassed diverse international collaborations with ensembles such as Musikfabrik, New European Ensemble, Ensemble Court-Circuit, Orkest De Ereprijs, and Orchestr Berg. She has worked with institutions including Codarts University of the Arts (Rotterdam), Lycée Français Vincent van Gogh (The Hague), Zhejiang Conservatory of Music (Hangzhou), Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts (Brno), HfMT (Köln), Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and Studio Hrdinu (Prague). Her work has also been featured at venues and festivals such as Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ (Amsterdam), the Gaudeamus Festival (Utrecht), Skopje Dance Fest, Festival de Royaumont, and PianoLab (Martina Franca).

Academically, Sara is currently based at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, where she works in the Dance department as a pianist and composer specializing in music for modern and contemporary dance, improvisation, and creative coaching for dance solos. She also teaches “Creative Coaching” to Bachelor students in the Art of Sound department and curated artistic projects for the Conservatoire’s 200th anniversary.

At the heart of her philosophy lies a deep connection between mind, body, and artistry: a vision that informs both her creative work and her daily life. With a lifelong background as a classical pianist, she combines performance, composition, and movement practices to develop a nuanced understanding of the artistic process and its demands.

Movement plays a central role in Sara’s life and work. Through dance, improvisation, Pilates, fitness, figure skating, she explores the body as a source of knowledge, expression, and transformation. Skating, in particular, is a profound passion; she experiences it as an extension of music: another way of listening, thinking, and moving through space, shaping time and sound.

This integrated perspective has inspired Sara to formalize her commitment to physical wellbeing. She holds a Fitness Trainer diploma (NL Actief, EREPS Level 3) and is advancing her qualifications to become an ACE Personal Trainer (EREPS Level 4). She is particularly committed to improve the physical wellbeing of artists, creators, musicians and perfoming artists.
