Amba Klapwijk

Amba Klapwijk is een jonge Nederlandse componiste. Landschappen, belevingen in de natuur, de poëzie en beeldende kunst zijn een uitgangspunt in haar werk.

Composer Amba Klapwijk graduated in 2020 at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, where she studied with Calliope Tsoupaki, Peter Adriaansz, Cornelis de Bondt and Jan van der Putte.
Landscapes, experiences in nature, poetry and visual arts are an important source of inspiration in her work. In 2019, she was artist-in-residence at the Iowa Lakeside Laboratory in America, a biological field station and nature preserve. In recent years, her compositions have been performed by the Herz Ensemble, the Residentie Orkest, the Rotterdam Student Orchestra and the New European Ensemble. Since 2020 she has been working closely with scenographer Paul Boereboom, including during a residency in Magazijn De Dood at the HEMbrugterrein in Zaandam. For the Gaudeamus Screendive Spring edition 2022 they will develop an audiovisual interactive work.
In 2021 Amba was nominated for the Tera de Marez Oyens award, dedicated to recently graduated composers in the Netherlands. Besides composing, she is active as organizer in various artistic projects.
