Group of Friends blends African folklore with collective improvisation, shifting the musical focus among its members, with contributions from Yoràn Vroom, Timothy Banchet, Yariv Vroom, and others.

Group of Friends plays music that represents the entire African diaspora, combining folklore with the spirit of collective improvisation. They love to shift the focus of their music, distributing all aspects of the music across the group members: the foundation might be laid by the electronic wind instrument (EWI), or percussion might take on the melody. Yoràn Vroom from Amsterdam is one of the most versatile jazz drummers today. According to critic Leendert van der Valk, he perfectly blends kaseko, jazz, and West African rhythms. Vroom began drumming at a very young age and credits a significant part of his musical development to studying under Surinamese-Dutch drum master Eddy Veldman and learning West African percussion from drumming legend Ponda O’Bryan.
