  • Vocaal

Requiem de la Luz (part 3/4), composed by Bjarni Guðmundsson and written by Nícolas Barría González, reflects on the myth of Polifemo and explores the themes of sight and perception within the broader cycle of life and death. Performed by Kamerkoor JIP under Jonathan Ploeg, the work underscores the vulnerability of life and its connection to our senses and emotions.

Kamerkoor JIP, conducted by Jonathan Ploeg, presents Requiem de la Luz (part 3/4): El sueño de Polifemo - Ojo, composed by Bjarni Guðmundsson (1886) with a libretto by Nícolas Barría González (1986). Requiem de la Luz explores the death of the sun and the cycle of life, with the poet reflecting on themes such as the seasons, the existence of the universe, the emergence of life, the development of our senses, and ultimately the death of the sun. The third part of the Requiem, El sueño de Polifemo - Ojo, delves into the gaze and perception, symbolized through the mythological figure of Polifemo. This powerful work seeks to awaken emotional awareness about the fragility of life on Earth and its connection to our sensory and emotional experiences. The Requiem de la Luz is a collaboration between poet Nícolas Barría González, composer Bjarni Guðmundsson, composer Diederik ten Böhmer, guitar players Alvaro Rovira Ruiz (Argentina) and Meike Aukes (Netherlands), and conductors Jonathan and Imre Ploeg.
