Rozalie Hirs
Adonis Blue
In Adonis Blue, part of the Ruysdael Quartet’s commissioned project, Rozalie Hirs blends multiple styles, exploring themes like space and stars while incorporating influences from minimalism, microtonality, and jazz.
The Ruysdael Quartet invited 25 composers to participate in a commission project. The result is a colorful cross-section of Dutch composition at the start of the 21st century. The quartet gave the composers complete freedom in style and theme. But how do you approach such a blank canvas? How can you express yourself within just a few minutes? It’s remarkable that many composers chose the painter Ruysdael as a theme, while others explored topics such as space and stars. Lyrical influences, minimal music, 17th-century influences, microtonality, jazz, and world music all make appearances in this diverse selection of works.
