Oorkaan Ensemble @ Showcase CNEXT Berlin
Classical:NEXT presents artists and ensembles from around the world that push the boundaries and extend the horizons of art music. The Showcase Festival features a live concert series of artists and productions across different formats, providing a unique opportunity to experience a number of performances in a short amount of time. In their Showcase, the Amsterdam-based Oorkaan Ensemble brings an explosion of colour and vibrant musical flair to the stage thanks to their unique instrument combination of harp, bass clarinet, bayan and percussion.
Showcase: debut album Shimmering
The Oorkaan Ensemble brings an explosion of color and theatricality with its unique lineup of harp (Michela Zanoni), (bass)clarinet (Michele Mazzini), bayan (Robbrecht Van Cauwenberghe) and percussion (Veysel Dzhesur). The musicians create exciting arrangements of classical masterpieces from Vivaldi to Schönberg and play work composed for them by a.o. Martijn Padding and Emre Sihan Kaleli. In their staged concerts Whoop Whoop(s)! and Gong and the Four Noses they reflect on Turkish and Indonesian classical music, featured in their debut album Shimmering.

The Oorkaan Ensemble (since 2021) performs in major concert halls, incl. Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ, Konzerthaus Wien, Bozar, Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Philharmonie Luxembourg, and in September 2024 in Concertgebouw Amsterdam.
