O Czasie, Twe Piramidy

Stargazing in the desert and an old Polish translation of Borges’ short stories shaped O Czasie, Twe Piramidy – a tapestry of drones echoing a vast, uninhabited world

Stargazing in the desert and an old Polish translation of Borges’ short stories shaped O Czasie, Twe Piramidy – a tapestry of drones echoing a vast, uninhabited world. The piece is scored for cello, tuba and spatial electronics containing virtual versions of the live instruments scattered around the space. The spatial sound is not only used for an immersive effect but also as a tool to rotate and shift the centre of gravity of the sound, with the intent of making the listener feel like a small observer of a large and endless sonic landscape. This performance is the official debut of Nieuw Warschau, a collective of composers and performers focused on cross-genre and multidisciplinary musical acts.

Philip Przybyło is a composer and producer of Polish descent, born in Ottawa (Canada) in 2000. Philip moved to Amsterdam to pursue his bachelors and masters degrees in composition at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. He has composed many compositions ranging from chamber pieces to electroacoustic works and orchestral compositions. He is also a prolific electronic music producer and co-founder of Anekumena Tapes, an experimental label he leads with Arieh Chrem aka Cartopol. In 2024 he founded the collective Nieuw Warschau with composer and cellist Antek Cholewiński. Philip’s work has received recognition both in Europe and in Canada, as he has been awarded winner of the Tera de Marenz Oyens Competition during the Gaudeamus Festival in Utrecht 2024. Furthermore Philip has won the second place in the Chamber category of the SOCAN Foundation Young Canadian Composers Award in 2024.
