Thijs van den Geest
Klinkende Kosmos
This project blends poetry and music, featuring works based on Willemijn van den Geest's poems, with compositions, scripted alternations, and free improvisations. Poignant performances by Willemijn van den Geest, Thijs van den Geest, Máté Lachegyi, Pedro Ivo Ferreira, and Floris van Elderen bring this exploration to life, with the video and audio capturing its depth.
In a dynamic exploration of the intersection between poetry and music, this project brings these two art forms closer together, balancing on their various points of connection. Recorded at the Roode Bioscoop, the project features compositions fully based on poetry, as well as scripts written for alternating moments of text and music. Additionally, free improvisations will be performed during the poems that lend themselves best to this format. Poet Willemijn van den Geest seeks to create a bridge between the inner and outer worlds through her language, not shying away from personifying the external world or abstracting the internal one. Her work moves between humor and seriousness in this search. The childlike, pure perception is tapped into, giving names to the ordinary, while an adult voice speaks from the daily reality, attempting to reconcile the weight of existence with this idiosyncratic worldview.
