Kika Sprangers
Kika Sprangers
With her cinematic, technicolor sound, Kika Sprangers takes listeners on a journey through jazz and beyond, surrounded by an exceptional ensemble of musicians, including Remy van Kesteren (harp) and Morris Kliphuis (horn).
Saxophonist Kika Sprangers is rapidly conquering the jazz world with her cinematic sound. Sprangers paints on a vast sonic canvas, using her satin-smooth and subtle saxophone tone to ignite the imagination. Her goal is to deeply touch her listeners with her kaleidoscopic, technicolor compositions. While her first love is jazz, she draws inspiration from colorful tone poets like Ravel and Pärt. Her music creates a cinematic atmosphere for the ears, a vision she has recently realized with an extraordinary dream ensemble.
For November Music, Sprangers received a composition commission, and surrounding herself with the loyal core members of her quintet—drummer Willem Romers, bassist William Barrett, keyboardist Koen Schalkwijk, and vocalist Anna Serierse—she assembled a new, thirteen-piece star ensemble. This includes top musicians such as horn player Morris Kliphuis (Kapok), reed player Mete Erker (Estafest), trumpeter Alistair Payne (AM.OK), and flutist Ketija Ringa Karahona. As a special guest, the most adventurous Dutch harpist, Remy van Kesteren, joins the ensemble for this performance.
