Brightness & Darkness
- Jazz
Three winners of Keep an Eye The Records 2025 presented their new albums at TivoliVredenburg. Pianist Miran Noh presents her band NOHMI’s album Brightness & Darkness (Zennez Records).
Feeling—it’s impossible to avoid on Brightness & Darkness, NOHMI’s second album. The South Korean pianist Miran Noh has gathered the cream of the new jazz generation for this musical adventure. Noh is a unique musician, rooted in both classical music and jazz, and it shows. Together with her bandmates, she effortlessly moves between these worlds. The influences of her great heroes, the French composers Ravel and Debussy, resonate clearly throughout this album.
Like a true impressionist, Noh plays with light and shadow. The light brings hope and connection, while the darkness captures emotion, struggle, and societal layers. Together, they create a narrative that invites you to look inward and outward—toward a world full of imbalance and quiet tensions, but also beauty.
Miran Noh (piano), Sanne Huijbregts (vibraphone/vocals), Antonio Moreno (trumpet), Claudio Jr De Rosa (tenor saxophone), Ton Felices (double bass), Auke de Vries (drums)
