Live at inJazz 24, WAAN blends electronic grooves, atmospheric melodies, and eclectic jazz, roots, and funk. Founded by saxophonist Bart Wirtz and keyboard player Emiel van Rijthoven, the band delivers energetic, dynamic live shows. Their debut album "Echo Echo" earned two Dutch Edison Jazz nominations in 2023, with new music coming in spring 2025.
A rich stew of electronic grooves, atmospheric melodies, and eclectic, vigorous jazz, roots, and funk: that is WAAN. The band was initiated in 2022 by saxophonist Bart Wirtz and keyboard player Emiel van Rijthoven. For their live performances, bass player Matteo Mazzù and drummer Mark Schilders join their magical world of music. WAAN has built a solid live reputation; their shows are energetic and dynamic, appealing to both young and older audiences.
In the studio, they also excel. Their debut album, “Echo Echo,” received two Dutch Edison Jazz nominations in 2023. They produced it themselves, assisted by Oscar de Jong (Kraak & Smaak). New studio material is set to be released in spring 2025.
