Article

With Composers’ Day, the Netherlands celebrates the importance, value and pleasure of live contemporary music. Dutch composers are in the spotlight in all their versatility; they are recognisably present at performances, put together programmes, give introductions and, of course, their music is heard. Not only in concert halls, but also on the streets, station squares and in trains. Top musicians play side by side with amateurs, young and old. It brings a large and wide audience into contact with composers and new music in many and surprising places. By bringing a wide audience into contact with new music, the Day of the Composer aims to initiate a movement that brings renewal and curiosity to the heart of musical life. The New Music NOW Express, the bright red train full of music, connected the programmes and travelled through several cities. Dazzling concerts took place in the train compartments and stations, musical encounters between the Composer of the Fatherland and the specially appointed City Composers and the many musicians of all ages and playing levels active in the city.
