Annija Anna Zarina
Annija Anna Zarina (b. 2000) is a Latvian composer currently based in The Hague. Specializing in contemporary music, she’s pursuing a Master's degree in Composition at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, Netherlands, under the guidance of Martijn Padding and Jan van de Putte.
She earned her Bachelor's degree in Composition from both the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. Zariņa's recent work tends to focus on two main aspects: conceptual and text-based compositions. In terms of aesthetics, her fondness for minimalism is evident, where the focus is on achieving clarity and intention with minimal resources. Each piece aims to center around one key element, focusing on its purpose and expression. Additionally, her Master's research delves into the disembodied voice, examining the relationship between live performers and their pre-recorded voices. This approach is developing into a series of works, exploring how this interplay can serve as a unique compositional element, blending the tangible presence of the performer with the intangible quality of their recorded self.
