Danai Belosinof
using sound to create imaginary spaces
Danai Belosinof (b. 1993, GR/BG) is a composer & multidisciplinary maker with sound as her primary medium. She studied contemporary composition at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Wim Hendrickx, Joel Bons & Richard Ayres, with special focus on Karnatic rhythm techniques and Indonesian javanese gamelan.
She composes and creates interdisciplinary performances with sound at their core. She uses everyday life subjects and brings them on stage as immersive interdisciplinary “situations”. In particular, she investigates the subjectivity of our perception of time and space and ways in which sound can sculpt it, the function of human voice and language and music’s role as an expression of primitivism in humans. Often her music incorporates subtle humour and surreal storytelling, as tools that contribute to experiencing different realities through sound, in a constant wish to alleviate reality's heaviness.
Her works have been presented in different venues among which Stichting Sign (NL), Neverneverland (NL), the Eye Film Museum (NL), NAUSICAA interdisciplinary art platform (NL), GOLF audiovisual festival (NL), MA/IN festival (IT) the Greek National Opera (GR), Onassis Stegi Foundation (GR), IFFR (NL) Drama film festival (GR).
