Wilko Brouwers
Where the mind is without fear
Where the mind is without fear combines Rabindranath Tagore’s powerful poem with Wilko Brouwers' music, sung by Hanneke Tichelaar and accompanied by violinists Adelina Hasani and Machiel Swillens. Recorded at the Pieterskerk in Utrecht, this piece evokes a call for freedom, truth, and reason, beautifully captured in a poignant performance.
Where the mind is without fear is a profound musical interpretation of the iconic poem by Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941), composed by Wilko Brouwers. The piece is brought to life with the expressive voice of Hanneke Tichelaar (mezzo-soprano), who delivers the lyrics with deep emotional resonance. The violin parts, played by Adelina Hasani and Machiel Swillens, complement the vocal performance, adding a rich, instrumental layer to the powerful message of the poem. The recording and editing were expertly done by Martijn Willemsen of Mathea Audio Producties, capturing the performance on 12 November 2020 at the Pieterskerk in Utrecht, The Netherlands. A photo of Hanneke Tichelaar by Gonnie van der Lelij visually complements the project's personal and introspective tone. Tagore's words, combined with Brouwers’ music, create an inspiring and uplifting work that calls for freedom, truth, and reason in the world.
