In this captivating concert, the Concertgebouworkest, under the baton of Antony Hermus, brings together playful music from the seasoned Louis Andriessen and the much-too-early departed Tristan Keuris, alongside commissioned works from emerging composers Celia Swart and Bram Kortekaas. The performance includes stunning solo contributions from Remy van Kesteren (harp), Dominique Vleeshouwer (percussion), and Katrien Baerts (soprano).

The orchestra has long championed Dutch composers, with a notable history of performing their works. Despite opposition from the notorious ‘Notenkrakers’ fifty years ago, the orchestra continues to feature new Dutch compositions. Bram Kortekaas' new commissioned piece for the orchestra and Katrien Baerts draws inspiration from heated discussions from 1970, bringing historical context to modern music. Louis Andriessen, once a rebellious ‘Notenkraker’ and now one of the most renowned composers in the country, presents his playful Tapdance, featuring Dominique Vleeshouwer.

Tristan Keuris, known for his craft-driven music, challenges the norms with his Symfonie in D gr.t., with its traditional classical title standing in contrast to the more modern, avant-garde works of his peers. In this concert, the boundary between ‘innovative’ and ‘conservative’ is blurred. The concert also showcases Celia Swart’s Reflections, a commissioned piece that was created in close collaboration with Remy van Kesteren on harp, reflecting a blend of tradition and innovation.
