PADUREA SACRA SECULARA is a poignant musical lampoon that addresses the illegal deforestation of Romania's ancient forests and serves as an ode to the brave foresters who fought to protect them. Written and composed by Wilko Brouwers, this piece draws attention to the urgent environmental issues surrounding old-growth forests, which are among the Earth's most precious treasures. With the music evoking both the majesty of the forests and the gravity of the situation, it’s a call to action to preserve these vital ecosystems for the balance of our planet.
The lyrics were translated by Irina Bianca Serban, and the declamation is delivered by Andra Rau, whose voice adds a layer of emotion and urgency. The composition features Wilko Brouwers on piano, Hanneke Tichelaar as mezzo-soprano, and Bart Lelivelt on accordion, all of whom bring their expertise and passion to this powerful work. Audio recording and mixing were handled by Martijn Willemsen and Bart de Groot, while the video production was managed by Irma Stewart-Oldenburg. The photos for the project were taken by Anna Loos-Veldkamp and Agent Green Romania, capturing the essence of the subject matter.
