February's Turn

"February’s Turn" was born from a deep collaboration with organist Gerrie Meijers, on the Verschueren organ at Orgelpark. Inspired by Helen Frankenthaler’s abstract expressionism, the piece creates a rich, atmospheric sound world, blending organic exploration with emotional depth.

"As a composer, I enjoy collaborating with the performing musicians; they are the experts for their instrument. When I was commissioned to write this organ solo as part of my composer portrait, I met the organist Gerrie Meijers. An intensive collaboration followed. We spent hours playing on the Verschueren organ at the Orgelpark (Cavaille-Coll type), developing the material I had in mind. It was a great pleasure to hear Gerrie Meijers perform 'February's Turn' on the Verschueren organ. I decided to name the piece after an abstract expressionist painting by the American artist Helen Frankenthaler."
