Jeroen Kimman
Elastiek
An exploration of the mysterious pedal steel guitar and trombone, Elastiek by Jeroen Kimman blends fluid, abstract sounds with the intimacy of chamber music, captured in one sensitive take with Koen Kaptijn.
In 2015, Jeroen Kimman composed Elastiek for pedal steel guitar and trombone, with support from a grant from the FPK. Having recently acquired the pedal steel guitar, Kimman sought to explore the more bizarre possibilities of this still-mysterious instrument, traditionally used in country music. The composition reflects a fluid and abstract sound world, akin to molten lava. At the same time, Kimman aimed to incorporate an aspect of raw, transparent chamber music, recorded in a single take with sensitive interplay. The trombone, with its sliding qualities, turned out to be a perfect complement to the steel guitar, and Koen Kaptijn was the ideal musician to dive into this deep sonic exploration together.
