Eric de Clercq
Doppelganger
Doppelganger, by Eric de Clercq, confronts eight organs with a brass quintet and percussion, creating a surreal soundscape. Inspired by David Lynch's Twin Peaks, it explores the eerie doppelganger phenomenon—a spirit that mirrors a person, symbolizing fear and evil.
Doppelganger, composed by Eric de Clercq, is a dramatic exploration of contrasting sounds. It features a growling and barking mechanical organ, medieval, baroque, and romantic church organs, a house pump organ, and an innocent portative organ. These eight organs are confronted by a loud, blasting brass quintet that whispers softly like distant ship horns. The percussion plays a ritualistic role, occasionally erupting into the sudden shadow of a cowboy tune. Doppelganger is an ode to filmmaker and visual artist David Lynch, whose work Twin Peaks centers around the doppelganger phenomenon. A doppelganger is a spirit that takes the form of an exact copy of a person, representing fear and evil.
Performed by Orkest de Ereprijs at the Orgelpark in Amsterdam.
