Miranda Driessen

Die Entdeckung der Langsamkeit

Die Entdeckung der Langsamkeit by Miranda Driessen, performed by Jan Heinke, blends steel cello with overtone singing in a slow, evolving exploration of sound. Heinke’s dual mastery of vocal polyphony adds a unique layer to this composition, supported by the Fonds Podiumkunsten.

In the summer of 2019, Miranda Driessen composed Die Entdeckung der Langsamkeit for steel cello and overtone singing, a work performed by the Dresden sound artist Jan Heinke. Not only is Heinke a skilled builder of sound objects from steel, but he also possesses a remarkable mastery of his voice, enabling him to perform two-part polyphonic counterpoint with incredible precision. Driessen, in collaboration with Heinke, created this new composition for this unique combination of instruments. The slowness inherent in the sound development of both 'instruments' provided an intriguing starting point for the piece, exploring the depth of sustained, evolving tones. This project was made possible through the support of the Fonds Podiumkunsten.
