Bow Valley

A composition born in the mountains, where nature and sounds converge to create a soundtrack for improvisation. A striking e-minor triad drives the piece, enhanced by the live Verschueren organ, while Anne La Berge, Ab Baars, Annelie Koning, and Gerrie Meijers breathe life into the improvisational journey.

"Bow Valley" was composed at the Banff Centre, located in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, for my favorite improvising colleague, flutist Anne La Berge. The sounds, including the train whistle, were recorded in and around my studio in the Leighton Colony, as well as organ sounds recorded in Welwyn Garden City (UK). These sounds serve as a soundtrack. The e-minor triad suddenly took on a prominent place during the composition process; the Verschueren organ amplifies this live for the occasion. Ab Baars, Annelie Koning, and Gerrie Meijers improvise over the soundtrack.
