Wilko Brouwers
A tavaszi kert (De Lentetuin)
In 'A tavaszi kert', Wilko Brouwers creates a musical parallel between the awakening of nature in spring and the restoration of the organ at Joriskerk, reflecting themes of rebirth through rich, harmonious sound.
Since composer Wilko Brouwers (born 1957 in Waalre) and his wife Ágnes became owners of a house and garden in rural Hungary, the location has served as a major source of inspiration for his work. The composition 'A tavaszi kert', Hungarian for "The Spring Garden," was specifically written for the restoration of the organ at the Joriskerk in Eindhoven, the largest pneumatic organ in the Netherlands, with the support of the Stichting Cultuur Eindhoven. The work is dedicated to organist Gerard Habraken. Brouwers draws a parallel between the garden that awakens after winter and the organ that comes to life following its restoration. The theme of rebirth is musically expressed through a quote from the Gregorian introit for Easter (Resurrexi).
