Bart Stravinsky Ad Piano New 3.Png

Bart Dijkman

Contemporary neoclassical compositions, often inspired by French impressionism, late romantic composers, and modernist figures like Stravinsky and Bartók.

A few years after graduating from ArtEZ University of the Arts in 1985, I began working in television during the early 1990s, focusing on screenwriting, directing, and video and sound editing. However, I soon specialised as a composer and sound designer for TV documentaries, video productions, and games, establishing my studio in 1993. In addition to my studio work, I teach Media & Sound Design at HAN University of Applied Sciences in Arnhem.

With over half a century of intensive listening to virtually every type of music and sound—and more than 40 years of composing for various media—I have honed my knowledge of music theory and developed a deep understanding of arrangements, orchestrations, and musical lines through study, discovery, and analysis.

Chance and serendipity have always played a significant role in my creative process. For me, composing music resembles painting. During my time at art school, I lacked confidence in the physical medium of paint.
How different it is now with musical notes, timbres, and rhythms! Looking back, I realise I have been a "music-painter" all my life.
