Mysterious Forest, composed by Eric de Clercq and dedicated to Tatiana Koleva, began as the idea of writing a percussion solo for a small setup—one that could fit into a suitcase. After experimenting with trash bags and matches as instruments, the decision was made to write for a basic form of the marimba, an instrument on which Tatiana Koleva is a true virtuoso. The composition features elements like six wooden drums, six wood blocks, or six layers of wood. As a tribute to filmmaker and visual artist David Lynch, the title of this piece was taken from one of his paintings: Mysterious Forest.
