The Meral Polat Trio blends contemporary Anatolian folk, blues, and Kurdish soul with multilingual grooves. Featuring Meral Polat, Chris Doyle, and Jens Bouttery, their music is a poetic exploration of universal stories rooted in Alevi heritage.
The Meral Polat Trio, led by the Dutch-Turkish-Kurdish singer-songwriter Meral Polat, takes the stage at InJazz 2023 with a unique blend of contemporary Anatolian folk, mountain songs, raw blues, and Kurdish soul. Their music weaves together multiple musical worlds, featuring lyrics in both Kurdish and Turkish. The trio is composed of Chris Doyle, an American keyboardist-guitarist, and drummers Frank Rosaly, a Puerto Rican-American, and Jens Bouttery from Belgium. Driven by the poetic legacy of Meral Polat's father, Ali İhsan Polat, and inspired by her Alevi roots from Dersim, the trio embarks on a journey to give new meaning to universal stories.
