Jeroen van Vliet
Jeroen van Vliet Septet
- Concert
November Music invited Jroen van Vliet, the top Dutch pianist and former winner of the Boy Edgar Prize, this year to commission a composition. For this, Van Vliet assembled a brand-new septet with musicians who subtly operate at the intersection of jazz, classical, folk, minimal, and electronica.
Expect compositions in which spatial music, rich harmonic colors, electronics, exciting soundscapes, and the art of improvisation come together. Van Vliet promises a set of interconnected works that induces a delicate state of trance in the listeners. With his sextet, Van Vliet unleashes a group sound with a wide range, from very intimate to impressively grand, without ever becoming aggressive or biting; a comforting heaven on earth. As sources of inspiration, Van Vliet cites Renaissance music and composers such as Arvo Pärt and Maurice Ravel, among others, but also the unexpected beauty of street and nature sounds.
Jeroen van Vliet is accompanied by Roosmarijn Tuenter (viola/voice), Koen Smits (trumpet), Bram Stadhouders (guitar), Jörg Brinkmann (cello), Gulli Gudmundsson (bass), and Mark Schilders (drums).
